Summertime Secret Santa! or Winter for you Southern Hemisphere folk, either way we've got a changing season on June 21st :)

Let's try to keep this a little more low-key than Christmastime SS. I know some people go all out for that, spending hundreds, but we could keep this more at $15-50 and maybe more focused on one present than a bunch of them.

I thought of doing it as a Happy Birthday for everyone, because we can all get Christmastime presents through SS, but not everyone gets birthday presents! So it could be sort of in honor of that. Or just in celebration of the new season and all.

ok, sign up! send an email containing the following info to threadsummerswap at gmail dot com

Username / real name / mailing address (if different in summer, list your probable summer address, or someplace safe and unchanging)
willing to ship internationally?
what are your favorite colors? places? music? books? movies? animals? things? things to do? what do you collect? what are you interested in? what do you want?
what do you dislike or not want?
any allergies?
links to last.fm or twitter or anything?
anything else?

p.s. - please don't sign up if you won't send a gift. it leaves people sadface and it's really unfair. anyone can put in the effort to send someone a nice gift, you don't need a ton of money or talent, just thoughtfulness.
p.p.s. - if you request a specific person that you want to send to or receive a gift from, you go to the back of the line, mister!

deadline for signups = April 25, with a hopeful mailing deadline of June 1st

Hey! new Bloggerraiser idear:

you sign up to do 10 minute (or another time-frame, or none) custom portraits, sketches, doodles, poems, songs, or whatever else you might want to offer for someone, set your own rules for what information you want the buyer to provide, and a price ($5, $10, $20, auction, whatever)

these could be purely for online - for songs, you could do an mp3, or play for someone on youtube or something, the portraits, doodles, or sketches can just be online, or you could have the option of mailing the concrete thing to the buyer, which I'm sure some people would love, but it doesn't have to be required.

you're welcome to do this on your own & then transfer the funds to the bloggerraiser, or - Sign up!

send an email with "bloggerraiser10" in the title to rlfielding at gmail dot com including the following:

1. threadname / name & email you want posted on the blog

2. short description of what you want to sell - 10 minute custom color portraits, pen doodles, custom poems, comics, anything!

3. what info would you like the buyer to provide? a word or idea (dinosaurs, the fall of the roman empire, etc), a picture of themselves or someone else, or whatever they want?

4. price! if you're putting in a lot of effort or more than 10 minutes or so, don't sell yourself short with $5. if you can easily do a bunch of them then $5 or $10 might be best!

5. shipping? if you're interested in mailing out something physical (not Olivia Newton John, please), or if a buyer requests it, you could charge a few more bucks for each piece & set a shipping price?

6. anything else? should people contact you through email or just post on the blog? are you only available to do a certain amount? do you need to wait until a certain time to start? do you want to complete one at a time before another can be purchased? let me know!

ok - when we have a few people signed up, we can start the real blog - title suggestions are welcome!

so I've a college application due today, which requires two major essays

one is the more typical - "Please provide a statement (250 words minimum) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve."

the other... "If you were to write the story of your life until now, what would you title it? Why? (400-600 words)."

what would the title of my life be?

what'd you write your college essay about?

for discussion about the bloggerraiser and such, go here or to kelsi's $$ total blog here
to sign up to do custom portraits, songs, poems, or anyhing else of the sort for the Bloggerraiser, go here!

Let's make this blog one place where people can offer donations to the Bloggerraiser. If you have something to donate, if you have a link to something you're selling with proceeds going to the Bloggerraiser, if you're offering something up for people who donate $$ to the fund, post here!

or email Team Bloggerraiser at threadless.bloggerraiser at gmail dot com about donations or having an item listed on the Bloggerraiser Etsy, if they are handmade/vintage goods, supplies, or prints of your own work.

For ideas on what to donate, in the past people have donated proceeds from selling their own used threadless tees on rethreaded or ebay, auctioning original art on ebay, or selling prints or originals through the Bloggeraiser etsy... pillows made out of threadless tees, crocheted & knitted hats, scarves, & other goodies, sock animals, blogger portraits (digital or paper!), and a bunch more! You can donate just about anything and either sell it on your own or have it listed on the Etsy if it's Etsy-appropriate.

Sorry for all the bloggerraiser blogs, I just wanted to have a place where people could post if they had something to offer, so it doesn't get lost :)

for kelsi's bloggerraiser '10 total blog, go here. to post about donating goods, go here

HEY!

There's been a bunch of meetup talk lately and a tentative date (9/11) and all & it's got me thinking about the Bloggerraiser.

Which brings me to two points & if you have any thoughts at all I'd love to hear them.

ONE (1). How do you feel about the Bloggerraiser? Things that can improved? When should the deadline be? Should there be an emphasis on international bloggers? Should everyone vote on who gets to go?

TWO (2). Ideas on ways to raise money? Anything you can do or suggest for someone else?

OK, I LIED (3). I have over 200 shirts that were donated by staff for the Bloggerraiser. About half are damaged (but brand new) threadless tees, about half are used by threadstaff guys (but in perfectly good condition). How should I sell these? Price them? Auction? Should they be sold in lots of 3 or 5 or individually? It's a lot of effort to individually photograph / describe / list / mail every single shirt only to not have many sell, so any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks dudes!

PICUPDATE:

:[
you bastard.

most of the stuff!
THANKS JEFF!

altogether I got:
NY shirt
linotte tote bag
fingerless gloves
AWESOME hawk shot mug (which is apparently a drink involving beef bouillon & smirnoff)
crocheted mint chocolate chip ice cream cone
argyle socks
giant bag o' swedish fish (these are long gone)
instruction books for foreigners on living in America today
dinosaur gloves
moneybag wallet

moneybag wallet!
...

and OMFG Bruins Snuggie!

BRUINS SNUGGIE!

Thank you SO MUCH, Jeff! You clearly went all out, and it cracked me up to see so much stuff from my etsy favorites that I thought about buying for other people or never would have bought myself. and I was ecstatic to see the moneybag wallet - tyler was upset that it sold right before he was about to buy it :P It has replaced my embarrassingly destroyed duct tape wallet in everyday use.

You are the best! I will give you biggest hug when you're back in Boston and we're going to see roller derby or something. :D thank you!

you are going to get a package full of gifts sans a letter because i forgot to put it in the box. i also forgot to put it in the mailbox before i left for home so its stuck at my dorm.

jeff

So I just received an enormous box from Jeff, FILLED with presents, and missing a letter. hehe. I am SO EXCITED to open them!

haha and I called that you were my SS last week. I don't know why, just cause I knew that you hadn't sent it out yet and that haya had been talking to my SS, and you never actually told me who you had, and it clicked. ask my brother, I totally called it :)

eeeeeep, pics to post later after I open them! I might wait until Wednesday but I might just do it tonight.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, JEFF! I haven't even opened anything yet and I'm so super happy and completely overwhelmed :D

I was thinking about ways that I could manage to donate to the Bloggeraiser, because I'm poor (negative dollars) and plus, I don't have the money right now to fund my own trip.

but then, idea!

I will make an effort to save all of my change and some $1 dollar bills from now until sometime after the meetup date is announced. Half will go towards my trip, half will go to the Bloggeraiser (community-sponsored fundraiser to send deserving bloggers/artists to the annual meetup in Chicago in the fall).

Anyone want to join in? Maybe we'll all do better if we know others are doing it too, we can check in with progress or have a contest to guess how much money is in the jars and whatnot?

and I'll give a $50 threadless GC to whoever raises the most change to give to the Bloggeraiser.
